What is Hypnotherapy?
Thanks for being curious!
At Free to Bee®, we believe that our past experiences significantly influence our present-day thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Sometimes, the key to unlocking our full potential lies in revisiting and understanding these past events.
We believe in unlocking the past in order to shape the future.
Our approach to hypnotherapy involves guiding you into a state of relaxation, similar to daydreaming or meditation. In this state, your mind becomes more open and receptive to exploring past experiences and beliefs. Through guided visualisations, we help you:
Reconnect with past experiences: Explore previous memories to gain insights into your current patterns and beliefs.
Understand limiting beliefs: Identify and address negative beliefs or self-limiting thoughts that may be holding you back.
Visualise a positive future: Create a mental image of your desired future and develop strategies to achieve it.
Our hypnotherapy sessions are designed to be gentle, supportive, and non-judgmental. We believe that you are the expert in your own life, and our role is to provide a safe and supportive space for you to explore your inner world.
If you're curious about how hypnotherapy can benefit you, please feel free to contact Debbie for a friendly consultation.
Together, we can explore whether this approach is right for your journey.
Let's connect and see if hypnotherapy is right for you or someone important to you.

What is the purpose of Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a method of updating the operating or autopilot system of our mind. It is said we spend about 95% of our time in our subconscious mind and about 5% of our time in our conscious mind. Our conscious mind is accessed when we are actively engaged in a task with no thought to the past or future.
In the 95% of the time we are in our subconscious mind we are listening to a commentary or narratives about ourselves, our ways of doing things, what others think of us and so on and so on. Not all of us actually hear this commentary, some of us see it and some feel it. It sits there governing how we interact with others, challenges, ourselves and life itself.
One way of updating this commentary or these narratives, visions, feelings and governorship of the mind is to update the beliefs it holds about us. By using the wisdom of hindsight a person can reprogram their mind to more resourceful beliefs, giving them freedom to move forward. Finding the keys to the future in their past and then having the freedom to choose when to use them.
Does hypnotherapy really work?
Yes, if you can daydream or fall asleep you can experience hypnosis! Hypnosis is a natural slowing of the brain wave activity of the mind which allows us to access memories. When we daydream or fall asleep our brain waves are slower than when we are wide awake, this natural slowing is a state of hypnosis. By intentionally relaxing we also slow our brain wave activity.
The style of hypnosis we use harnesses the power of the wisdom of hindsight therefore it is very hard to unlearn what the client has taught themselves about a particular experience they have lived through.
The only barrier to hypnotherapy is if the client actively chooses not to participate and that can happen for various reasons. We can all only do what we give ourselves permission to do.
What happens at the consultation?
In our consultation, we'll work together to:
1. Give you an opportunity to teach me more about the issue and how it affects you to give me insight into what your struggles are
2. Make a plan that works for you. The plan needs to meet your level of commitment to change, availability, beliefs and budget.
3. If appropriate book a date to get started with your unique life coaching plan to assist you to meet your goals.
What happens in a session?
Each session is dedicated to the particular issue the client is facing at the time. I do not plan a standard session, they are all unique and dedicated to the clients needs.
Through gentle conversations about the issue and exploring what the client how the client would like their life to be different we gain clarity on what it is that is causing the issue for the client.
The client then goes through a gentle process of relaxation to allow their brain activity to slow down as if they were just drifting off to sleep. In this state they are still able to communicate, experience emotions and apply the wisdom of hindsight. Once the client feels satisfied they have completed all the learning they needed to teach themselves they 'come back to the room' feeling refreshed and peaceful.
Do you work with children?
Yes, children are also affected by unresourceful beliefs about themselves, others and the world around them. By empowering children to update their limiting beliefs and manage their emotions they are more equipped for the inevitable challenges of adolescence and adulthood.
For children under the age of 13 years I do require that a parent or other adult the child trusts be present at the appointment both online and in person.
I have a long history of working with children from my previous career as a Dental Therapist.
How much does it cost?
Sessions are two hours each. In a state of relaxation time is meaningless. I allow plenty of time so that clients are not interrupted by the clock.
The cost of a session is:
$199 two hour session
Do I join online or in person?
I offer both online, telephone and in-person sessions.
Clients choose the option that best suits your needs and preferences.
Online sessions are conducted via secure video conferencing software and offer the convenience of meeting from anywhere with an internet connection.
In-person sessions take place at my office in Hamilton.
I really enjoy working with people online and by phone. For some people it seems to give them enough distance and privacy to really dig deep in terms of identifying what is holding them back from overcoming challenges and obstacles in achieving their goals.
It is not always possible for people to work with me in person so online or phone work is a great way of moving past the challenge of physical location.
